A great evening at the China Club Berlin!

China Club Berlin

A friendly “Good Morning!” to all of you. We hope you slept well at this fantastic hotel and are prepared for the exciting programme that lies ahead of us.

Of course, yesterday evening was pretty fantastic as well.

An awesome keynote by Emiliy Penn, skipper and ocean advocate, who trawled for micro plastics on a voyage through the Arctic Northwest Passage, rounded the planet on the record-breaking biofuelled boat Earthrace and organized the largest ever community-led waste cleanup from a tiny Tongan island.

Emily raises the awareness of the devastating impact of single-use plastic and toxics in the world’s oceans. Therefore she founded eXXpedition. This organisation has been running 11 all-women sailing voyages. Over 100 multidisciplinary crew members have been sailing to makes the unseen seen: the microplastic in the oceans.

And there are different ways to reduce the ocean’s pollution:

  1. Avoid pollution by reducing and replacing plastics
  2. Intercept plastic by recycling and retrieving
  3. Redesign by using new materials

In October 2019 Emily’s organisation eXXpedition will embark on a two-year global circumnavigation involving 300 amazing women to study and find solutions for the ocean plastic issue.

We hope you enjoyed the evening as much as we did and were inspired for some interesting discussion over wine and Chinese delicacies. We made sure to capture some impressions from last evening in pictures that we now published on our website. We hope you like them!
