Section Chief of the Fertility and Population Ageing Section | United Nations, USA
Karoline Schmid is currently the Section Chief of the Fertility and Population Ageing Section in the Population Division of the United Nations in New York. In this capacity she provides strategic leadership to her team to produce timely evidence-based policy analysis and advice on global trends in fertility, family planning and population ageing, including the specific analysis of gender dynamics. Over an almost three-decades career in various UN divisions, UN agencies and duty stations, she has managed daily operations – including large projects- as well as diverse teams and has engaged with senior Government officials and development partners at all levels. She has supported intergovernmental processes at the global and regional level and has served as a speaker and resource person at conferences, technical workshops and seminars. Her focus on networking and partnership building has remained both a priority and one of her main achievements. Karoline is currently also an author and co-publisher of a manual on Population Statistics and Population Dynamics to be published later in 2024. She holds a Diploma in Sociology from the University of Bamberg and a Ph. D. in Sociology from the University of Marburg.
